Johnny Appleseed

Poetry by Griffith H. Williams.

Johnny Appleseed, printed on a letterpress in 2001, is my “award winning book.” This chapbook won the 2001 Bumbershoot Bookfest award for best letterpress design. It is an original poetic retelling of the myth that surrounds John Chapman. Twelve pages and three original linoleum block prints make this award winner attractive indeed!

I never saw John’s face again.
He’d other hills to climb,
But still I see him every spring
At apple blossom time.
For when the hills are glowing pink
With trees no one can own
I think of John’s two sacks of joy
And how that joy has grown.
